Test A: Remote Keyless Entry System Inoperative

NOTE: Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module may as be referred to as Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) module.
  1. If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, check for intermittent problems.
  3. Lock and unlock the door locks using the controls inside the vehicle. If locks operate properly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate properly, diagnose and repair door locks. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - PARK AVENUE article.
  4. Open the rear compartment release from inside vehicle. If rear compartment release operates properly, go to next step. If rear compartment release does not operate properly, diagnose and repair rear compartment release. See POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - PARK AVENUE article.
    5. NOTE: Inspect that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate the vehicle remote system.
  5. Turn on the Keyless Entry Tester (J 43241). Place transmitter on tester test pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound and/or Green light illuminate on tester after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates on tester after each button is pressed, go to step  10 .
  6. If any button causes a tone to sound and/or Green light to illuminate on tester, go to step  9 . If no tone or Green light is noted during testing, go to next step.
  7. Replace transmitter battery. Go to next step.
  8. Place transmitter on tester test pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound and/or Green light illuminate on tester after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates on tester after each button is pressed, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace transmitter. Go to step  13 .
  10. Press the PANIC button on the transmitter. If system operates, go to next step. If system does not operate properly, go to step  13 .
  11. Synchronize transmitters. See RESYNCHRONIZING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING.
  12. Verify system operation with transmitter near vehicle. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, go to step  15 .
  13. Reprogram transmitters. See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING. Verify system operation. If doors do not lock and unlock, go to next step. If doors lock and unlock, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace RFA module. See REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram transmitters. See PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS  under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
  15. Verify system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
