Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Buick Regal and 2004 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Install the radiator to the lower mounts.
- Install the coolant reservoir hose to the radiator overflow neck.
- Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Line Quick Connect Fitting in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
- Install the outlet hose to the radiator.
- Use J 38185 to install the outlet hose clamp to the radiator. See Special Tools and Equipment .
- Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle and Deflector Replacement - Lower .
- Install the cooling fan shroud.
- Install the cooling fan shroud bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
- Install the cooling fan shroud clip to the top of the radiator and fan shroud. Apply pressure in order to completely engage the clip onto the radiator and fan shroud.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Install the push pin retainer to the lower left side of the fan shroud.
- Install the transmission oil cooler lines on to the retainer at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the fan motor heat shields.
- Install the radiator upper support brackets and bolts that hold the fan shroud.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
- Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
- Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
- Install the PCM harness on to the fan shroud clip.
- Install the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
- Adjust the transaxle fluid level.
NOTE:
Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
NOTE:
Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.
