Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Buick Regal and 2004 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Install the radiator to the lower mounts.
  2. Install the coolant reservoir hose to the radiator overflow neck.
  3. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Line Quick Connect Fitting in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  4. Install the outlet hose to the radiator.
  5. Use J 38185  to install the outlet hose clamp to the radiator. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  6. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle and Deflector Replacement - Lower .

  8. Install the cooling fan shroud.
  9. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  10. Install the cooling fan shroud bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

  11. Install the cooling fan shroud clip to the top of the radiator and fan shroud. Apply pressure in order to completely engage the clip onto the radiator and fan shroud.
  12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  13. Install the push pin retainer to the lower left side of the fan shroud.
  14. Install the transmission oil cooler lines on to the retainer at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Install the fan motor heat shields.

  18. Install the radiator upper support brackets and bolts that hold the fan shroud.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  20. Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
  21. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  22. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  23. Install the PCM harness on to the fan shroud clip.
  24. Install the LH and RH engine mount strut braces. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  25. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  26. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
  27. NOTE: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.
  28. Adjust the transaxle fluid level.
