Removal Procedure
- Relieve the fuel system fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure .
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining Procedure .
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Disconnect the fuel tank wiring harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the fuel evaporative emission (EVAP) pipes. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
- Remove the EVAP canister bracket nut.
- Loosen the fuel tank fill pipe hose clamp.
- Disconnect the fuel tank fill pipe hose (2) from the fuel tank (1).
- Disconnect the EVAP vent pipe near the fill pipe hose. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
- With the aid of an assistant or a transmission jack, support the fuel tank and remove the fuel tank strap attaching bolts (2).
- Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle and place the fuel tank in a suitable work area.
- If the fuel tank is being replaced, perform the following steps:
- Remove the fuel sender (1). Refer to Fuel Tank Module Replacement .
- Remove the fuel tank wiring harness from the fuel tank.
- Remove the fuel pipes from the fuel tank.
- Remove the EVAP vent solenoid valve (2). Refer to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement .
- Remove the EVAP canister (3). Refer to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Replacement .
IMPORTANT:
Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.
NOTE:
Do not bend the fuel tank straps. Bending the fuel tank straps may damage the straps.
