Lower Control Arm Replacement

Preliminary Procedure 
Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
1 Steering Knuckle Nut
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Support the steering knuckle with an adjustable stand.
  2. Separate the pinch joint on the steering knuckle at the front lower control arm ball joint.
NOTE: ALWAYS use the appropriate tools to separate the pinch joint on the steering knuckle at the front lower control arm ball joint.

Tighten 
First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
Second Pass: Loosen 120 degrees
Third Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
Final Pass: (30-45 degrees)
2 Steering Knuckle Bolt
CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Procedure 
Remove and DISCARD the bolt.
3 Front Lower Control Arm Front Nut
4 Front Lower Control Arm Front Bolt
CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Procedure 
Remove and DISCARD the bolt.
Tighten 
First Pass: 100 N.m (74 lb ft)
Final Pass: (90-105 degrees)
5 Front Lower Control Arm Rear Nut [2x]
6 Front Lower Control Arm Rear Bolt [2x]
CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Procedure 
Remove and DISCARD the bolts.
Tighten 
First Pass: 100 N.m (74 lb ft)
Final Pass: (75-90 degrees)
7 Front Lower Control Arm Bushing Bolt
CAUTION: This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

Procedure

  1. Remove the front lower control arm bushing bolt.

    DISCARD the bolt.

  2. Use the GE-6600-2  wrench to tighten the NEW front lower control arm bushing bolt.
NOTE: Tighten the front lower control arm bushing bolt with the vehicle at ride height.

Tighten 
First Pass: 55 N.m (41 lb ft)
Final Pass: (90-105 degrees)

GE-6600-2  Torque Wrench
Equivalent regional tools: Special Tools 
8 Front Lower Control Arm
Procedure 
Measure and adjust the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications
