Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Always wear safety goggles when working with fuel in order to protect the eyes from fuel splash.

WARNING:

Do not allow smoking or the use of open flames in the area where work on the fuel or EVAP system is taking place. Anytime work is being done on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required.

  1. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (AWD) 
  2. Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement (AWD) 
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the fuel feed pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
  5. Remove the EVAP system hoses. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  7. Install the CH-45722  Fuel Pump Locking Ring Wrench to the fuel pump module lock ring (1).
  8. Using the CH-45722  Fuel Pump Locking Ring Wrench and a long breaker-bar, rotate the fuel pump module lock ring (1) in a counterclockwise direction in order to unlock the lock ring from the fuel tank (2).

  10. Raise the fuel pump module (2) enough to gain access to the fuel tank vent pipe (1) and disconnect the pipe from the fuel pump module. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  12. Remove the fuel tank fuel pump module (2).
  13. Remove and discard the fuel tank fuel pump module O-ring gasket (1).
