Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

The VSS, located in the transaxle, provides vehicle speed information to the ECM. The ECM uses this signal to operate fuel economy data panel, integral cruise control, idle speed control system, VCC and to modify fuel delivery under certain conditions. A VSS buffer is installed between speed sensor and ECM to amplify the signal.
