Incorrect Resistance Measurements Check

  1. Check if problem happens with only one key and not others. If so, clean or replace faulty key. If condition is present with all keys, lock cylinder may be dirty/defective or there is a fault in key resistance circuit wiring, connections or contacts.
  2. Use an ohmmeter and check key resistance. Disconnect PASS-Key decoder module, insert key in ignition and measure resistance across terminals B8 (White/Black) and B7 (Purple/White) of decoder module harness connector. Wiggle harness while performing test. Resistance should be within 10 ohms of resistance measured on key when it was removed from vehicle.
  3. If resistance is not within 10 ohms, determine if resistance difference is wiring, wiring connections, dirty key/lock cylinder contacts or defective lock cylinder.
  4. Rotate key through all positions and check for a change in resistance. A change of over 10 ohms indicates a problem with lock cylinder or key contacts.
