Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

The Bosch 2U Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Traction Control System (TCS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up and increase vehicle steerability, directional stability and optimum deceleration in severe braking conditions on most road surfaces. The ABS performs this function by monitoring speed of each wheel and controlling brake fluid pressure to each wheel independently during braking.

System also monitors rear wheel speed and compares it to front wheel speed. If excessive rear wheel speed is detected at either rear wheel, TCS will be activated. TCS uses throttle close-down and rear brake intervention to provide improved traction and vehicle stability.

The ABS consists of an Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM), Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) assembly, solenoid valves, pump motor, pump relay, solenoid valve relay, 4 wheel speed sensors, Throttle Position (TP) sensor interface module, brake booster/master cylinder assembly, and TRACTION ENGAGED, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE and ANTI-LOCK warning indicator lights.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article.
