Anti-Lock Brake System: Diagnosis: Notes

NOTE: To diagnose ABS system, manufacturer recommends using Tech 1 Scan Tester (94-00101-A) with mass storage cartridge and Bosch ABS adapter. Some diagnostic procedures will require Breakout Box (J-39700), BPMV Pinout Box (J-41247) and Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (J-39200).

The EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) stored by EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester.

Begin ABS/TCS system diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION  procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and then proceed with ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart. See Fig 1 . If no failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, go to ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart. See Fig 1 . The ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK chart will either indicate ABS/TCS system is functioning properly or direct technician to various diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic charts, symptom diagnosis or BRAKE warning light diagnosis.
