Test A: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Press each button on remote transmitter. If system does not operate correctly, go to next step. If system operates correctly, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. Using door lock switches, lock and unlock door locks. If door locks operate correctly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate correctly, repair door locks as necessary. See POWER DOOR LOCKS - ELDORADO article.
  4. Press rear compartment and fuel door release buttons from inside vehicle. If rear compartment and fuel door releases operate correctly, go to next step. If rear compartment and fuel door releases do not operate correctly, repair rear compartment and/or fuel door release as necessary. See appropriate REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
    5. NOTE: Ensure remote transmitter is correct model for vehicle Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. An incorrect model remote transmitter may pass test, but will not activate RKE system for vehicle.
  5. Turn Keyless Entry Tester (J-43241) on. Place remote transmitter on keyless entry tester test pad. Press each button on remote transmitter. A tone should sound and Green light illuminate on keyless entry tester with each button pressed on remote transmitter. If keyless entry tester does not respond as specified, go to next step. If keyless entry tester responds as specified, go to step  10 .
  6. If any button pressed on remote transmitter does not sound tone or illuminate Green light on keyless entry tester, go to next step. If any button pressed on remote transmitter sounds tone and illuminates Green light on keyless entry tester, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace remote transmitter battery, then go to next step.
  8. Turn keyless entry tester on. Place remote transmitter on keyless entry tester test pad. Press each button on remote transmitter. A tone should sound and Green light illuminate on keyless entry tester with each button pressed on remote transmitter. If keyless entry tester does not respond as specified, go to next step. If keyless entry tester responds as specified, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace remote transmitter, then go to next step.
  10. Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. If door locks do not cycle from lock to unlock, go to next step. If door locks cycle from lock to unlock, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). Program all remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  12. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  3 .
