DTC P1554: Powertrain Control Module Detects Cruise Engaged Signal: Testing

  1. If cruise control diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If cruise control diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor DTC information in Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If DTC P1585 is not stored with P1554, go to next step. If DTC P1585 is stored with P1554, perform DTC P1585: CRUISE CONTROL INHIBIT OUTPUT CIRCUIT  .
  3. Using scan tool, observe CRUISE REQUESTED display. If CRUISE REQUESTED display does not indicate YES, go to next step. If CRUISE REQUESTED display indicates YES, go to step  5 .
  4. Review and record FAILURE RECORDS information on scan tool. Operate vehicle within fail records conditions. Using scan tool, monitor specific DTC information for DTC P1554 until test runs. If scan tool indicates DTC P1554 failed this ignition, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate DTC P1554 failed this ignition, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Cruise Control Module (CCM) 10-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe cruise requested display. If CRUISE REQUESTED display indicates YES, go to next step. If CRUISE REQUESTED display does not indicate YES, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PCM Clear 80-pin harness connector C2. Inspect for a short to ground in Light Blue/Black wire between CCM harness connector terminal "J" and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 24. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If Light Blue/Black wire is okay, go to step  8 . If Light Blue/Black wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace CCM. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step.  9 .
  8. Replace and program PCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES -- SEVILLE article. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC, as specified in code enable criteria. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
