Removal Procedure
Important Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
- Open the hood.
- Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the air inlet grille. Refer to AIR INLET GRILLE PANEL REPLACEMENT
.CAUTION: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, It can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
- Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass.
- Upper dash pad
- Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
- Seats and carpeting
- Remove the windshield reveal molding. Refer to Urethane Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows .
- Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement (UE1) .
- Remove the rain sensor. Refer to WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOISTURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - WINDSHIELD PILL
.CAUTION: Refer to GLASS & SHEET METAL HANDLING CAUTION .
Important The windshield reveal molding (1) is a one piece molding and fills the cavities between the body and windshield (2).
- If the windshield reveal molding (1) is stretched or damaged it can not be reused.
- Remove the windshield reveal molding.
- 10.1. Grasp the lower corner of the windshield reveal molding by hand and slowly pull the reveal molding away from the windshield.
- 10.2. If the windshield reveal molding will not release, use a utility knife in order to cut around the windshield in order to remove the windshield reveal molding.
- 10.3. Apply a double layer of masking tape to the body around the entire periphery of the stationary glass.
- Be careful not to damage the lower windshield supports (1) to the cowl panel, if equipped.
Important Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.
- This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
- Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
- The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
- Use J 24402-A, J 39032 or equivalent in order to cut the urethane beads to remove the window.
- Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.
- Remove the windshield from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
