Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the upper control arm.
  2. Install the upper control arm bolts.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the upper control arm nuts and the adjustment cams.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nuts to 175 N.m (129 ft lbs).

  4. Connect the upper control arm to the steering knuckle.
  5. Install the new upper ball joint retaining nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the nut to 50 N.m (37 ft lbs).

  6. Install the wheel drive shaft (4WD only). Refer to AXLE SHAFTS .

  7. Install the retaining bolts for the brake hose and wheel speed sensor brackets.

    Tighten 

    • Tighten the brake hose bracket to steering knuckle bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
    • Tighten the brake hose bracket to upper control arm bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels .
  9. Remove the safety stands.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
