Circuit/System Testing

    NOTE:

    The Appropriate SAC004 Proactive Alert Labor Code Must be used to accurately process the claim. See Labor Time Guide: "Engine/Propulsion Proactive Alerts".

  1. Verify the customer has the Proactive Alert SAC004 from OnStar or by using the Scan Tool "Vehicle Diagnostics" - "Vehicle Proactive Alerts".
    • If Proactive Alert SAC004 is present. 
    1. Verify the battery cable connections are clean and tight and verify Voltage is between 12.0 - 15.0 V
      • Go to next step: If within the specified range 
    2. Test for less than 0.5 V between the C1 Battery positive battery terminal and positive terminal at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the positive battery cable between the C1 Battery and X50D Fuse Block - Battery.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    3. Test for less than 0.5 V between the positive battery cable at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery and terminal 1 X2 or A X2 at the M64 Starter Motor with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the battery starter cable between the X50D Fuse Block - Battery and M64 Starter.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    4. Test for less than 0.5 V between the negative battery cable and the M64 Starter Motor case with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the negative battery cable.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    5. Test for less than 100 mV between the C1 Battery positive battery terminal and positive terminal at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 100 mV or greater 

        Replace the M64 Starter Motor and the positive battery cable between the C1 Battery and X50D Fuse Block - Battery.

      • Go to next step: If less than 100 mV 
    6. Replace the M64 Starter Motor.
    • Go to next step: If Proactive Alert SAC004 is not present. 
  2. All Ok.
