Circuit/System Testing

    NOTE:

    The Appropriate SAC005 Proactive Alert Labor Code Must be used to accurately process the claim. See Labor Time Guide: "Engine/Propulsion Proactive Alerts".

  1. Verify the customer has the Proactive Alert SAC005 from OnStar or by using the Scan Tool "Vehicle Diagnostics" - "Vehicle Proactive Alerts".
    • If Proactive Alert SAC005 is present. 
    1. Verify the battery cable connections are clean and tight and verify Voltage is between 12.0 - 15.0 V
      • Go to next step: If within the specified range 
    2. Test for less than 0.5 V between the positive battery terminal and positive terminal at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the positive battery cable.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    3. Test for less than 0.5 V between the positive battery cable at the X50D Fuse Block - Battery and terminal 1 X2 or A X2 at the M64 Starter Motor with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the positive battery cable.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    4. Test for less than 0.5 V between the negative battery cable and the M64 Starter Motor case with the ignition in the CRANK/START position.
      • If 0.5 V or greater 

        Replace the negative battery cable.

      • Go to next step: If less than 0.5 V 
    5. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test 
      • If Battery Fails the Test 

        Replace the C1 battery.

      • Go to next step: If the Battery Passes the Test 
    6. Replace the M64 Starter Motor.
    • Go to next step: If Proactive Alert SAC005 is not present. 
  2. All Ok.
