Steering System - Power: Description
Steering gear assembly is a power rack and pinion type. The steering gear is connected by tie rod assemblies to the steering knuckles. A flexible coupling connects the steering shaft to the steering gear assembly. See Fig 1 .
Power steering pump incorporates a pressure switch to protect engine from overloading. When pressure reaches 569 F 100 psi (40 F 7 kg/cm2 ), the switch closes to activate the carburetor mixture by-pass solenoid. This raises the idle speed. The switch opens when pressure drops to 356 psi (25 kg/cm2 ).
