87chevy25
Number: 87-220

Section: 6E

Date: SEPT., 1987
Subject: DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS CAUSED BY EGR VALVE

Model and Year: 1987 CAVALIER WITH 2.0L (VIN CODE 1) ENGINE
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Vehicle driveability symptoms of difficult starting, poor idle, stalling, sag off idle, low-speed surge, low block learn memory (BLM) and closed loop integrator (CLI) values, or idle RPM oscillations of 200-300 RPM can be caused by EGR valve damage.

To verify that the above symptoms are EGR valve damage related look for:

1. Obvious tilt of the EGR valve's vertical axis
2. Erratic EGR pintle/stem movement
3. No change in symptoms with disconnected EGR valve vacuum.

If observed, replace with the appropriate EGR valve to repair the problem.

Use Labor Number J6270 and applicable Labor Time.
