Fuel System Pressure Release: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

There are two preferred methods for releasing fuel system pressure. The method using a scan tool is the cleanest since no fuel, under pressure will be present at any fitting or connection that needs to be serviced. This method is preferred when removing any components of the fuel system that require disconnecting fuel lines. This method is also preferable to disconnecting the fuel pump relay since no DTCs will be set and there is no concern about voltage spikes to the PCM if the relay should be reinstalled with the key on. If performance tests are to be run on the system underhood, fuel system pressure release procedure performed without a scan tool will be preferable since the Gauge Bar Set (SA9127E) will also be required for the testing.
