Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 GMC Safari and 2001 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove drivers seat.
  2. Remove carpet retaining sill trim molding. Fold back carpet to access inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
  3. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (1) from inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) wiring harness connector (2). See Fig 1 . Push down flex lock button (3) and slide connector locking cover (4) to open position. See Fig 1 .
  4. Disconnect SDM wiring harness connector (2) from SDM (4). Remove SDM mounting fasteners (1). See Fig 2 . Remove SDM (4) from vehicle
