Preliminary Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 GMC Safari and 2001 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical and/or mechanical damage. Check for blown fuses. For fuse and/or relay identification, refer to illustrations. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Ensure ground connections are clean and tight. See, GROUND DISTRIBUTION articles in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Check for loose or corroded connections, and damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Pay special attention to harness routing where wires are hinged or make sharp bends. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If fault is not found, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  .
