Shift Cable
CAUTION:
Misadjusted shift linkage could cause transaxle clutch and/or band failure.
NOTE:
Most FWD vehicles are equipped with a self-adjusting shift cable.
- Set the parking brake. Remove the console. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
- Lift and unlock the shift cable retainers. Push the shifter neutral lock clip.
- Move the shifter slightly in order to center the lock clip. Ensure that the transaxle is in neutral. Press and lock the shift cable retainers.
- Pull the shifter neutral lock clip to its original position. Install the console. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEMS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
