Programming Without Using A Programmed Key

CAUTION: Do not disconnect Yellow, 2-pin SIR connector when determining key code.
NOTE: The dealer invoice contains resistor pellet and mechanical cut key codes for vehicle. Use the following procedure if dealer invoice is not available.
  1. Obtain an ignition key that does not have a resistor pellet and cut to proper mechanical cut. Remove sound isolator panel under driver's side instrument panel. Disconnect ignition lock cylinder 2-pin harness connector. Close driver's door. Connect PASS-Key® II (VATS) Interrogator (J 35628-A) to male side of ignition lock cylinder 2-pin harness connector.
  2. Move key code switch on interrogator to position "1" and turn on interrogator. Attempt to start engine. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, go to step  4.
  3. Obtain an ignition key that has a resistor pellet with a resistor code of "1" and cut to proper mechanical cut. Check system operation. If system operates properly, procedure is complete. If system does not operate properly, repair anti-theft system as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Move key code switch to next number on interrogator. Press 4-minute timer on interrogator. When timer light goes out, attempt to start engine. If engine does not start, go to next step. If engine starts, go to step  6.
  5. Repeat step  4 until proper key code is found and engine starts, then go to next step.
  6. Obtain an ignition key that has a resistor pellet with a resistor code that matches code on interrogator and cut to proper mechanical cut. Check system operation. If system operates properly, procedure is complete. If system does not operate properly, repair anti-theft system as necessary. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
