Camshaft Position Sensor

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor contains a signal generator (hall switch) and is located inside a distributor type housing on back of cylinder head. Signal rotor, inside CMP sensor housing, is driven by camshaft. When sensor rotor turns, a magnetic flux is applied to hall element. Hall element generates a voltage proportional to the magnetic flux. Voltage signal is modified into a digital pulse and then sent to PCM. PCM uses this signal to control ignition timing and injectors.
