Remote Keyless Entry System Diagnostic System Check
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, repair scan tool or DLC connector concern. See TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Following scan tool manufacturer's instructions, attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If communication with BCM is established, go to next step. If communication with BCM is not established, a communication problem exists with class 2 device. Repair communications concern. See TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article.
- Select display DTC function for BCM. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with a "U", see TEST D: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article. If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to next step.
- If scan tool displays DTC B1000, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article. If scan tool displays any other DTC, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
