Powertrain Control Module
Cruise control module sends a signal to PCM through cruise engaged output terminal when cruise control is engaged. Cruise control module cruise inhibit input terminal is a circuit used by PCM to inhibit cruise control when conditions inconsistent with cruise operation exist. If PCM determines that any of cruise control inhibit conditions exist, PCM requests that cruise control module suspend cruise control operation. PCM accomplishes this request by opening cruise inhibit output circuit. If cruise engage output signal, sent by cruise control module to PCM, indicates that cruise control is still engaged after PCM has requested that cruise control disengage, PCM sets a DTC. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. The PCM will inhibit cruise control when:
- Engine is off.
- Automatic transaxle is in Park, Reverse, Neutral or 1st gear.
- Engine speed is too high/low.
- Vehicle speed is too high/low.
- PCM sets certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) or other failure records.
- ABS/traction control system is active for greater than 2 seconds.
- Undercharged or overcharged battery condition exists.
