With Body Control Module

  1. If remote keyless entry system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform remote keyless entry system diagnostic system check. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Press each button of Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter one at a time. If system does not operate as specified, go to next step. If system operates properly, diagnose intermittent condition.
  3. Using power door lock switches check operation of door locks. If door lock operate properly, go to next step. If door locks do not operate properly, diagnose door lock system. See DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. Operate decklid release from inside vehicle. If decklid release operates properly, go to next step. If decklid release does not operate properly, diagnose decklid release system. See BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
    5. NOTE: Ensure RKE transmitter is correct model for vehicle RKE system. A wrong RKE transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
  5. Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J-43241). Using keyless entry tester, place RKE transmitter on test pad of keyless entry tester. Press each button of RKE transmitter one at a time. Keyless entry tester should sound and green light should illuminate. If keyless entry tester does not operate as specified, go to next step. If keyless entry tester operates as specified, go to step  9.
  6. Replace transmitter battery. After repair, go to next step.
  7. Turn on keyless entry tester. Using Keyless entry tester, place RKE transmitter on test pad of keyless entry tester. Press each button of RKE transmitter one at a time. Keyless entry tester should sound and green light should illuminate. If keyless entry tester does not operate as specified, go to next step. If keyless entry tester operates as specified, go to step  9.
  8. Replace transmitter. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  11.
  9. Reprogram RKE transmitter. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING. If chime does not sound twice, go to next step. If chime sounds twice, go to step  11.
    10. NOTE: New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article
  10. Replace Body Control Module BCM. After repair, go to next step.
  11. Operate system to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  2.
