DTC 8: Remote Keyless Entry System: Testing
- If BCM diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform BODY CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If BCM diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Press each button of RKE transmitter, one at a time. If system does not operate normally, go to next step. If system operates normally, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RCDLR harness connector. RCDLR is located behind center of dash, near defrost vent. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire). See Figure . If voltage is near battery voltage, go to next step. If voltage is not near battery voltage, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect a test light between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 . If test light illuminates, go to step 9 .
- Test Black/White wire between BCM and RCDLR for high resistance or open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Test Black/White wire between BCM and RCDLR for short to ground. If no problem is found, go to step 8 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor connections at RCDLR harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step 11 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. If no problem is found, go to step 10 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Repair short to voltage in Black/White wire between BCM and RCDLR. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program feature customization settings. See ENTER FEATURE CUSTOMIZATION MODE under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step 12 .
- Replace RCDLR module. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect all disconnected components. Clear DTCs. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA conditions. If DTC resets, go to step 2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
