Test F: Scan Tool Does Not Power Up: Testing

  1. Test Orange wire between CIGAR/DLC (15-amp) fuse located in fuse block and DLC terminal No. 16 for an open or short to ground. See appropriate POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. See Figure . If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, perform appropriate diagnostic system check for system in which customer concern is apparent. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Test Black wire between ground and DLC terminal No. 4 (Black wire) for an open. See appropriate GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, perform appropriate diagnostic system check for system in which customer concern is apparent. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  3. Inspect for poor connections at DLC terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 16 (Orange wire). If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, perform appropriate diagnostic system check for system in which customer concern is apparent. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. Scan tool may be malfunctioning. Refer to scan tool instruction manual. Obtain a properly operating scan tool and perform appropriate diagnostic system check for system in which customer concern is apparent. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
