10-Minute Relearn Procedure

CAUTION: If replacing a theft deterrent control module with a GM SPO replacement part, perform procedure to setup a new theft deterrent control module prior to 10-minute relearn procedure.

Use this procedure after replacing any of these components: Pass-Key(R) III keys, theft deterrent control module or Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  3. Ensure all power consuming devices are turned off.
  4. Using scan tool, select REQUEST INFO, under service programming system, and follow scan tool on-screen instructions.
  5. Disconnect scan tool from vehicle, and connect to Techline(R) terminal with current service programming system software.
  6. Using Techline(R) terminal, select service programming system, and follow on-screen instruction.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from Techline(R) terminal, and connect to vehicle.
  8. Using Black Pass-Key(R) III master key, turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  9. Using scan tool, select PROGRAM ECU under service programming system.
  10. Ensure scan tool is still connected to vehicle for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  11. NOTE: On some vehicles, SECURITY indicator may illuminate on steady for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  12. Observe scan tool, after 10 minutes. Scan tool will display "PROGRAMMING SUCCESSFUL, TURN IGNITION OFF". Vehicle is now ready to relearn key information and/or passwords on next ignition switch cycle from OFF to RUN positions.
  13. Using Black master Pass-Key(R) III, start vehicle. Theft deterrent control module has learned key transponder information, and PCM has learned fuel continue password.
