30-Minute Relearn Procedure

Use this procedure after replacing any of these components: Pass-Key(R) III keys, theft deterrent control module or PCM.

If replacing a theft deterrent control module with a GM SPO replacement part, perform setup procedure for new theft deterrent control module prior to 30-minute relearn procedure.

  1. Using Black master Pass-Key(R) III key, turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  2. Observe SECURITY indicator. After about 10 minutes SECURITY indicator will turn off.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps  13 for 2 more times, for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
  5. NOTE: Vehicle learns key transponder information and/or passwords on ignition switch cycle from OFF to START positions. Ignition switch must be turned to OFF position, before attempting to start vehicle.
  6. Using Black master Pass-Key(R) III key, start vehicle. Vehicle has learned key transponder information, and PCM has learned fuel continue password.
  7. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs.
