Power Sliding Door System: Description: Notes
Power Sliding Door (PSD) system consist of: left rear side door actuator control module, right rear side door actuator control module, left PSD actuator motor and clutch assembly, right PSD actuator motor and clutch assembly, left sliding door alarm, right sliding door alarm, left sliding door detent switch, right sliding door detent switch, left sliding door unlatch actuator, right sliding door unlatch actuator, left PSD on-off switch, right PSD on-off switch, left PSD overhead console open/close switch, right PSD overhead console open/close switch, left PSD "B" pillar open/close switch and a right PSD "B" pillar open/close switch. PSD system is controlled by "B" pillar switch, overhead console OPEN/CLOSE switch or Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system.
PSD system(s) can operate correctly only if PSD is in proper mechanical condition. Any mechanical problems will affect PSD operation and must be repaired before attempting to diagnose PSD system. Manually open and close PSD to determine if door moves smoothly and without excessive resistance or binding. PSD must also latch and unlatch without use of excessive force. At any time during PSD open or close operation, excessive resistance to door movement will cause PSD to stop and reverse direction of travel.
PSD will operate only when PSD on-off switch in overhead console is in ON position. At anytime during PSD operation on-off switch may be turned to OFF position and system will quit any function in process. PSD will not open unless transmission shift lever is in Park position and door is unlocked. When sliding door security lock is in LOCK position PSD will not open from inside. PSD close function will operate when vehicle is in gear. PSD module uses Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal to determine if vehicle is moving during a PSD close function. Momentum of vehicle moving forward adds resistance to door closing operation. When Rear Side Door Actuator Control Module (RSDACM) determines vehicle is moving forward while closing door, current flow through actuator motor is increased instead of being reversed. VSS signal circuit is supplied battery voltage through a resistor, then monitored within RSDACM. VSS signal circuit is then pulsed to ground, or pulled low by Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in relation to vehicle speed. PSD alarm will sound repeated short tones whenever PSD system is turned on and door is open while transmission is out of Park.
When PSD system is on and manual operation of PSD is detected rear side door actuator control module activates power assist feature. When power assist is activated PSD will continue to open or close without any further manual effort. PSD may be operated using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. RKE transmitter will have one OPEN/CLOSE button with a van symbol on it for each PSD. PSD on-off switches in overhead console must be in ON position in order to operate PSD using RKE transmitter. When a right hand PSD OPEN/CLOSE function is activated using a RKE transmitter exterior lights will flash once indicating RKE module has received OPEN/CLOSE command. When activating a left hand PSD OPEN/CLOSE function with RKE transmitter, exterior lights will not flash.
