SIR Service Precautions: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette, and 2002 Chevrolet Venture. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System . Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) maintains a reserved energy supply. The reserved energy supply provides deployment power for the inflator modules. Deployment power is available for as much as 10 seconds after disconnecting the vehicle power. Disabling the SIR system prevents deployment of the inflator modules from the reserved energy supply.
