Installation Procedure

  1. Install the inlet hose.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the inlet hose to the pump.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the inlet hose to the hose retainer.
  4. Install the drive belt. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT  in Engine Mechanical-3.4L.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING in General Information.
  6. Use a utility stand in order to support the frame rear.
  7. Remove and DISCARD the frame rear bolts.
  8. Use the utility stand in order to lower the frame rear to gain access.
  9. Install the inlet hose to the steering gear.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  10. Install the power steering gear hose clip.
  11. Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame rear.
  12. Install the NEW frame rear bolts.
  13. Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACEMENT  in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.
  16. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM   .
