Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Before applying power to the SIS make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedures could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
  1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface. Inspect the nuts and replace if necessary.

    CAUTION: Apply Loctite 242® Threadlocker US P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent, on all restraint bolts/nuts before installation. Failure to use such threadlocker correctly may result in personal injury.
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the inflator bracket screw (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  4. Install the inflator bracket push-in retainer (2).

    IMPORTANT: Verify that the roof rail module is not twisted during installation.
  6. Position the roof rail module over the sail panel bracket.
  7. IMPORTANT: The sunroof drainage hoses must be routed outboard of the roof rail module.
  8. Install the inflatable restraint roof rail module screws (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the harness connector (2) to the inflator (3). Engage the CPA.
  10. Install the headliner harness retainer to the inflator bracket.
  11. Install the headliner. Refer to Headliner Replacement in Interior Trim.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 2 .
  13. Fully deploy the removed module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
