Inflatable Restraint Front End Sensor Replacement

CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the lower radiator air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement .
  3. Unclip the brake lines from the frame.
  4. Unbolt the ABS brake pressure modulator valve bracket from the frame and reposition to gain access to the sensor bolts. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Bracket Replacement .
1 Forward Discriminating Sensor Bolt (Qty: 2)
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tip:  Loosen the bolts in order to remove the sensor.

Tighten:  8 N.m (71 lb in)

2 Forward Discriminating Sensor
Tip: 
  1. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
