Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering column to the vehicle and connect the column to the intermediate shaft.
    2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the steering column mounting nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  3. Install the intermediate shaft bolt to the steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  4. Connect the steering column electrical connector to the vehicle wiring harness.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screw to 6 N.m (53 lb ft).

  5. Install the knee bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  6. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  7. Unlock the steering column by removing J 42640 from the lower trim cover access hole.
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
