Control Arm Replacement

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
1 Front Lower Control Rear Arm Nut
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Using the J-42188  separator, remove the front lower control rear arm from the steering knuckle.
  2. Using a EN 45059  kit, tighten the nut.
    • First Pass: 60 N.m (44 lb ft)
    • Final Pass: plus 120 degrees

TIP:  If servicing the steering knuckle, it is NOT necessary to completely remove the front lower control rear arm from the vehicle. Separate the front lower control rear arm from the steering knuckle.

Special Tools

  • EN 45059  Torque Angle Kit
  • J-42188  Ball Joint Separator

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
2 Front Lower Control Arm Front Nut
3 Front Lower Control Arm Front Bolt
Tighten 
60 N.m (44 lb ft) plus an additional 120 degrees
4 Front Lower Control Rear Arm
Procedure 
Check and adjust the front wheel alignment, if needed. Refer to Front Caster and Camber Adjustment .
