Alternator: Service and Repair

Generator Replacement (1.6L LDE, LXV, LLU, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW)

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
3. Remove the generator and air conditioning compressor belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).




4. Remove the generator wiring harness nut (2).
5. Remove the generator positive cable nut (1).




6. Remove the 2 generator bolts (2).
7. Remove the generator (1).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the generator (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the 2 generator bolts (2) and tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).




3. Install the generator wiring harness nut and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
4. Install the generator positive cable nut (1) and tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb in).
5. Install the generator and air conditioning compressor belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection).
7. Close the hood.
