Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Chevrolet HHR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
Verify the iPod® is in good working order and visually inspect the iPod® connector cavity for any signs of damage before performing this diagnostic. Verify the proper software has been downloaded from http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/ to the iPod® before performing this diagnostic.
- Radio ON, set the radio to the iPod® interface menu option and attempt to operate audio from the iPod®.
- Gently wiggle the interface harness at the iPod® connection. Verify the iPod® interfaces with the radio when the connector is wiggled.
- If the iPod® interfaces with the radio intermittently when the connector is wiggled, inspect the iPod® connector cavity and interface cable for damage. Replace the suspect iPod® interface cable or inform the customer that the iPod® may be damaged.
- Ignition ON, Observe the PAL red LED indicator. Verify the red LED indicator is illuminated.
- If the PAL red LED is not illuminated, go to iPod Audio Distorted or Inoperative - One or More Speakers .
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the PAL and test the CAN 2 serial data circuit for an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the PAL.
