Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Airbag Replacement

WARNING: Refer to SIR Warning .
CAUTION: No attempt should be made to separate the instrument panel inflatable restraint module from the instrument panel trim pad. When replacing the instrument panel inflatable restraint module, the instrument panel trim pad must also be replaced.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement (with UV6) or Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement (without UV6) .
1 Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Assembly

Procedure

  1. Snap new airbag into new instrument panel trim pad.
  2. Ensure that the instrument panel inflatable restraint module is fully deployed before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping .
  3. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  4. Tip: 

    The instrument panel trim pad will be damaged when attempting to separate the instrument panel inflatable restraint. The trim pad and inflatable restraint are shipped separately and need to be attached when ready to install to vehicle.
