KEY PROGRAMMING AND ADDING KEYS FOR CAPRICE PPV
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
| Affected Model(s): | 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice PPV |
SERVICE INFORMATION
A police department may inquire about how to add keys to their PPV fleet.
The Caprice has different key blanks, regular unique production key (RPO AX2, part #19205407 or 92193937) and a fleet key (RPO AU7/6E3 and AU7/6E4, part #19205408, 19205409, 19205419, 19205420 and 92247727). Each key type has specific data programmed into it at the time of manufacture. This is very important when adding new keys to the vehicle as it may affect programming. Starting the week of February 11, 2013, pre-cut keys will have a white dot added to the fleet key and a yellow dot added to the regular key to aid in identification (Lock cylinder kits with keys included WILL NOT be marked with dots).
Programming Keys
To program additional keys, follow the steps below:
Selecting "Learn Replacement Keys" when in the "Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn" in the SPS will erase all previously learned keys. And erased keys cannot be relearned.
- Connect the scan tool and build the vehicle.
- Select "Body."
- Select "Theft Deterrent Module."
- Select "Data Display."
- Select "TDM Data" and select "Next List."
- Read the Fleet Vehicle Status. It will say "Yes" or "No." If "Yes," it is a fleet keyed vehicle. If "No," it is a regular AX2 vehicle. Make sure you have the appropriate key before you start programming.
Adding Keys
To add additional keys, follow the steps below:
- With a previously learned key that currently functions in the vehicle, turn ignition ON with the engine OFF.
- Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
- Within 10 seconds of turning OFF the vehicle, insert the key to be learned and turn ON the ignition, wait 5 seconds, turn off the ignition and remove the key. If more than one key is to be learned, repeat the process for every key. The vehicle has now learned the new key(s).
If there is a Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) current code set, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and clear the codes.
If you mistakenly program a key thinking the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) is in one mode and it is not, the programmed key(s) will need to be scrapped. They cannot be programmed a second time.
Keys can only be programmed once.
DO NOT replace the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM). Contact TAC at 1-877-446-8227 for assistance.
