Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disable the SDM, refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees from the straight-ahead position to expose the access aperture hole in the rear of the steering wheel hub.
  3. Using tool no. EL-48508  removing the drivers airbag, insert into the aperture and pivot towards the instrument panel moving the tool in an outward direction. This will relieve the tension on the spring-loaded retaining clips. The inflatable restraint assembly will move slightly away from the steering wheel. Rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees to expose the remaining access aperture hole. Repeat for other side.
  4. Carefully lift the steering wheel inflatable restraint assembly away from the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring harness connectors (Orange and Blue) from the rear assembly.
