Power Liftgate System Controls

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 GMC Acadia, 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2016 Buick Enclave. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The power liftgate can be operated by any one of the following means:

When approaching the vehicle, the power liftgate can be opened using a keyless entry transmitter. When the liftgate control module receives the serial data message that a release is requested, it begins the open sequence. In this open sequence, the liftgate latch is released, allowing the liftgate motor assembly to begin raising the liftgate. Using the exterior liftgate handle to access the vehicle will only cause the liftgate latch to release; the liftgate motor will not open the liftgate in this instance. When open, the liftgate can be closed by either a keyless entry transmitter or the liftgate close switch. When a serial data message or switch input is received, the liftgate control module begins the close sequence. The liftgate motor is reversed, lowering the liftgate until it latches into the liftgate latch. Once latched, the latch will cinch the liftgate to a fully closed position.

Power liftgate function will only be allowed if certain operating criteria are met. Any of the following may cause the power liftgate not to function:

The liftgate control module also receives inputs from the left and right pressure sensitive touch tapes. If either of these sensors come into contact with an object, power close functions will be suspended until the object is removed.
