The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

CONDITION/CONCERN

Some customers and technicians may notice that they're unable to program additional key fobs to the vehicle or a technician may notice that they're unable to program new key fobs to the vehicle after a customer has lost the keys to the vehicle.

RECOMMENDATION/INSTRUCTIONS

If the customer or the technician is adding a new key fob to the vehicle and the DIC reads " Ready for FOB 2,3,4 etc " and nothing happens after that point, please check the following items:

1) Check for any current DTCs in the BCM and address these codes first before proceeding to step 2.

2) Make sure the key is fully extended from the key fob and is inserted in the proper key slot in the instrument panel storage compartment

3) Make sure the Immobilizer ring ( Which is part of the theft module ) is fully snapped into the bottom of the Instrument Panel Upper Center Compartment ( See photo Below )

NOTE:

A quick test to see if the ring is fully snapped into place is to take one of the key fobs that are already added to the vehicle and remove the key fob battery. Then fully extended the key from the key fob and is inserted in the proper key slot in the instrument panel storage compartment and see if the vehicle starts. If the vehicle starts, the ring is properly positioned into the IP Upper Center Compartment. If the vehicle doesn't start and the DIC reads "No Key fob Detected" then the Immobilizer ring may not be properly snapped into place.

4. Verify the fob/transmitter being programmed is a new unit and has not been programmed to another vehicle previously. Once the transmitter has been programmed to a vehicle you cannot successfully reprogram that same transmitter to another vehicle.

If a technician is learning new key fobs to the vehicle due to the original keys being lost or if they have erased all the key fobs using SPS programming and the key fobs will not learn to the vehicle. Please inspect the Immobilizer ring (Which is part of the theft module) is fully snapped into the bottom of the Instrument Panel Upper Center Compartment as shown in the photo above.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
