Glow Plug Control Module Scan Tool Information

Parameter System State Expected Value Description
This is a comprehensive list. Not all parameters listed are available for all applications.
Base Operating Conditions:  Engine Idling/Radiator Hose Hot/Park or Neutral/Closed Loop/Accessories Off.
Accessory and Battery Voltage Input Levels - Agree This parameter displays Disagree if the voltage difference between Voltage IGN 0 and B+ are too high.
Control Module Voltage Signal - 13-15 V This parameter displays the control module voltage signal.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug - 10-15 A for 4 cyl.
19-21 A for V8
This parameter indicates the current of the individual glow plug circuits as calculated by the control module. The scan tool will display a higher value for more current and a lower value for less current.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the glow plug circuits. The scan tool will display OK if the circuits are operating correctly. The scan tool will display Malfunction if the control module detects that the glow plug voltage is too high.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the glow plug circuits. The scan tool will display OK if the circuits are operating correctly. The scan tool will display Malfunction if the control module detects that the glow plug voltage is too low.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug Control Circuit Open Test Status - OK This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the glow plug circuits. The scan tool will display OK if the circuits are operating correctly. The scan tool will display Malfunction if the control module detects that the glow plug voltage is open.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug Resistance - 1.3-1.5 Ω for 4 cyl.
0.5-1.0 Ω for V8
This parameter indicates the resistance of the individual glow plug circuits as calculated by the control module. The scan tool will display a higher value for more resistance and a lower value for less resistance.
Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Glow Plug Resistance Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Glow Plug Over Resistance Status.
Engine Controls Ignition Relay and Battery Voltage Input Levels - Disagree This parameter displays Disagree if the glow plug control module voltage difference between internal/external battery voltage is too high.
Glow Plug Command Signal - Off This parameter displays the commanded state of the glow plugs. The scan tool will display On or Off.
Glow Plug Control Module Supply Voltage - OK This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the glow plug circuits. The scan tool will display OK if the Glow Plug Control Module temperature is within specifications. The scan tool will displays Overtemperature if the Glow Plug Control Module temperature is above specifications.
Glow Plug Control Module Temperature - OK This parameter displays the state of the Glow Plug Control Module temperature. The scan tool will display OK if the circuit is operating correctly. The scan tool will display Yes if the circuit is shorted to ground.
Glow Plug Driver Open - No This parameter displays Yes if a glow plug driver switch is malfunctioning or open.
Glow Plug Driver Shorted - No This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the glow plug circuits. The scan tool will display No if the circuit is operating correctly. The scan tool will display Yes if there is a short on the circuit.
Glow Plugs - 7-14 V This parameter displays the voltage supply to the glow plugs as measured by the control module. The scan tool will display a higher value at high voltages or a lower value at lower voltages.
Ignition 1 Signal - On This parameter displays On if the glow plug control module is receiving an Ignition 1 signal.
Ignition 1 Signal - 13-15 V This parameter displays the voltage measured at the Ignition 1 circuit of the control module. Voltage is applied to the control module when the ignition switch is in the Ignition 1 position.
Ignition Accessory Signal - 13-15 V This parameter displays the ignition accessory signal voltage to the glow plug control module.
Intake Air Heater - 11-13.2 V This parameter displays the status of the intake air heater as commanded by the control module.
Intake Air Heater Command - 0% This parameter displays duty cycle of the intake air heater as commanded by the control module.
Intake Air Heater Command Signal - Off This parameter displays On if the heater is commanded ON by the control module.
Intake Air Heater Control Circuit 1 Command Status - OK This parameter will display OK if the circuit is good or Malfunction if a short to ground, short to B+ or open circuit is present.
Intake Air Heater Current - OK This parameter displays the intake air heater current out of range or OK.
Intake Air Heater Current Signal Circuit Status - OK This parameter displays the intake air heater current signal circuit status. Malfunction is displayed when a short to battery is detected.
Intake Air Heater Element Status - OK This parameter displays the status of the intake air heater element.
Intake Air Heater Feedback Signal - On/Off This parameter displays the status of the intake air heater switch.
Intake Air Heater Feedback Circuit Status - OK This parameter will display OK if the circuit is good or Malfunction if a short to ground, short to B+ or open circuit is present.
Intake Air Heater Ground Status - OK This parameter displays the status of the intake air heater ground. The scan tool displays Open when the ground is open.
Intake Air Heater Resistance - Varies This parameter displays either the last known resistance value stored in the ECM or the current resistance while the intake air heater is commanded ON.
Intake Air Heater Resistance Status - OK This parameter will display OK if the circuit is good or Malfunction if a short to ground, short to B+ or open circuit is present.
Intake Air Heater Temperature Signal Circuit Status - OK This parameter will display OK if the circuit is good or Malfunction if a short to ground, short to B+ or open circuit is present.
Intake Air Heater Temperature Status - OK This parameter displays the current status of the intake air heater temperature. The scan tool displays Overtemperature if a malfunction is detected.
Intake Air Heater Voltage Signal Circuit Status - OK This parameter displays the intake air heater voltage signal circuit status. The scan tool displays Malfunction when the intake air heater is commanded OFF and intake air heater voltage signal is not 0 V.
Intake Air Heater Voltage Status - OK This parameter will display OK if the circuit is good or Malfunction if a short to ground, short to B+ or open circuit is present.
Intake Air Temperature Status - OK This parameter displays the diagnostic state of the output driver for the IAH. The scan tool will display OK if the circuits are operating correctly. The scan tool will display Fault if the control module detects that the IAH temperature is too high.
NOx Sensor 1 Supply Voltage - 13-15 V This parameter displays the NOx Sensor 1 supply voltage.
NOx Sensor 1 Supply Voltage Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the NOx Sensor 1 supply voltage circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the NOx Sensor 1 supply voltage circuit is shorted to voltage.
NOx Sensor 1 Supply Voltage Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the NOx Sensor 1 supply voltage circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the NOx Sensor 1 supply voltage circuit is shorted to ground.
NOx Sensor 2 Supply Voltage - 13-15 V This parameter displays the NOx Sensor 2 supply voltage.
NOx Sensor 2 Supply Voltage Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the NOx Sensor 2 supply voltage circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the NOx Sensor 2 supply voltage circuit is shorted to voltage.
NOx Sensor 2 Supply Voltage Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the NOx Sensor 2 supply voltage circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the NOx Sensor 2 supply voltage circuit is shorted to ground.
Reductant Heater 1 Command - On/Off This parameter displays the status of Reductant Heater 1.
Reductant Heater 1 Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit shorted to voltage.
Reductant Heater 1 Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit shorted to ground.
Reductant Heater 1 Control Circuit Open Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 1 control circuit is opened.
Reductant Heater 1 Current - 6.0-7.0 A This parameter displays the Reductant Heater 1 current feedback in Amps.
Reductant Heater 2 Command - On/Off This parameter displays the status of Reductant Heater 2.
Reductant Heater 2 Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit shorted to voltage.
Reductant Heater 2 Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit shorted to ground.
Reductant Heater 2 Control Circuit Open Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 2 control circuit is opened.
Reductant Heater 2 Current - 3.0-5.0 A This parameter displays the Reductant Heater 2 current feedback in Amps.
Reductant Heater 3 Command - On/Off This parameter displays the status of Reductant Heater 3.
Reductant Heater 3 Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit shorted to voltage.
Reductant Heater 3 Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit shorted to ground.
Reductant Heater 3 Control Circuit Open Test Status - OK This parameter displays the state of the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit. The parameter displays Malfunction if the Reductant Heater 3 control circuit is opened.
Reductant Heater 3 Current - 0.5-1.0 A This parameter displays the Reductant Heater 3 current feedback in Amps.

Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Injector Flow Identifier This function allows the Injector Flow Identifier to be manually entered into a controller.
Glow Plug This function commands the Glow Plugs ON/OFF.
Intake Air Heater This function commands the Intake Air Heater ON/OFF.
