Diagnostic Sequence

  1. Connect diagnostic readout box (DRB) to engine harness connector. Turn ignition on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds. Record all codes. Turn ignition off. Disconnect and reconnect battery connector. Start engine.
    CAUTION: DO NOT  depress accelerator pedal to start engine.
  2. Cycle transmission gear selector (auto. trans. only). Press A/C button on and off (if equipped). Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds. Record all codes.
  3. If same code appears before and after engine is started, problem still exists. Proceed to tests indicated in steps 4), 5), 6) or 7). If code does not reappear after engine is started, problem no longer exists, but is intermittent. Check for loose or corroded wiring connections in the circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  4. If code 13 is displayed, repair vacuum supply to MAP sensor. If code 15 is displayed, go to DR1  . If code 21 is dispayed, repair open circuit between logic module and O2 sensor. If codes 51 and 34 are displayed, proceed to DR3  . If code 31 is displayed, proceed to DR4  .
  5. If codes 31 and 34 display, repair ignition feed wire to solenoids for an open circuit. If code 32 is displayed, go to DR5  . If a code 33 is displayed, proceed to DR6  . If a code 34 is displayed, perform test DR3  procedures. If a code 35 is displayed, proceed to DR7  .
  6. If code 42 is displayed, perform ATM test. Record results (y - yes, n - no). If test results are "yyy", go to DR8  . If test results are "nnn", go to DR9  . If codes 44, 52, 53 or 54 are displayed, replace logic module. If display is blank, go to DR10  .
  7. If there is no code 88, go to DR11  . If there are no fault codes, go to DR12  . If code 41 is displayed, repair charging system. If code 54 is displayed, repair distributor sync. pick-up circuit to logic module for an open circuit. If code 51 is displayed, go to DR2  .
  8. A code 88 indicates start of test sequence. A code 12 indicates battery feed circuit to logic module has been disconnected. A code 55 indicates end of test sequence.
