Fuel Injectors
Fuel injector is an electronic solenoid. PCM determines pulse width (on time) for injector. When injector is energized, a spring-loaded check ball is lifted from its seat. Fuel then flows in a cone-shaped spray pattern into air stream on TBI models.
On MFI models, armature and pintle move a short distance against a spring, opening a small orifice. Since fuel is under high pressure, a fine spray is developed and injected directly behind intake valve.
