CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Avenger and Sebring Coupe models offer an optional Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. Use of a 2-button, portable remote control operates power door locks within a range of 20 ft. (6 m) from the center of the vehicle. The operating range of the remote transmitter may be affected by TV transmitting towers, power station or radio broadcasting station. Power door locks are controlled by the Electronic Timer Alarm Control System (ETACS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) that acquires a signal from RKE receiver. The ETACS ECU sends appropriate signals to individual door lock actuators through individual relays.

When remote transmitter LOCK button is pressed, all doors will lock and dome light will flash twice. When UNLOCK button is pressed once, only the driver's door will lock and dome light will illuminate for 3 seconds. When UNLOCK is pressed a second time, all doors will unlock. The keyless entry system does not operate if key is in the ignition or if a door is open. If UNLOCK is pressed and no door is opened within 30 seconds, the doors will automatically relock.
