Wheel Speed Sensor

  1. Before testing sensor resistance, ensure no foreign material has adhered to pole piece at wheel speed sensor tip. Sensor pole can become magnetized and pick up foreign material. Check wheel speed sensor pole piece for damage. If damaged, replace sensor.
  2. Disconnect sensor connector. Inspect sensor wiring harness for broken or pinched wires. Repair or replace as necessary. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance across sensor wiring connector. Resistance should be 1000-1200 ohms. If resistance is not within specification, replace sensor.
  3. Check wheel speed sensor-to-rotor gap. Gap should be 1.11-1.12" (28.2-28.5 mm). If wheel speed sensor-to-rotor gap is within specification, go to next step. If gap is not within specification, check wheel speed sensor and rotor. Replace as necessary.
  4. Inspect wheel speed sensor rotor which set trouble code for damaged or missing teeth. If rotor is okay, go to WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OUTPUT VOLTAGE. If rotor is damaged, replace rotor.
