Test 146A - Repairing Headlight Circuit

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: Perform TEST 141A  before proceeding with this test.
  1. Using scan tool, read key in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to TEST 146C . If scan tool displays CLOSED and parking lights do not flash, go to TEST 146B. If scan tool displays CLOSED and parking lights flash, go to next step.
  2. Actuate headlight relay using scan tool. If headlights toggle on and off, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located behind right kick panel. If headlights do not toggle on and off, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect BCM Gray connector. Ensure connector is clean and undamaged. Go to next step.
  3. Connect jumper wire between BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Dark Blue wire) and ground. If headlights come on, replace BCM. If headlights do not come on, disconnect jumper wire. Go to next step.
  4. Remove headlight delay relay. See Figure. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on headlight delay relay connector terminal "A" (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  5. Check voltage on headlight delay relay connector terminal "C" (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Connect jumper wire between headlight delay relay connector terminals "A" (Red/White wire) and "B" (Light Green wire). If headlights do not come on, repair open Light Green wire. If headlights come on, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step.
  7. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Dark Blue wire between BCM Gray connector terminal No. 2 and headlight delay relay connector terminal "E". If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Red/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace headlight delay relay.
